Are you an individual that is passionate about international development? More specifically are you interested in and passionate about refugee issues? If so, WUSC’s Student Refugee Program (SRP) may be a great place for you to volunteer! Through a unique youth-to-youth sponsorship, WUSC’s SRP provides student refugees with an opportunity to pursue their education at a Canadian university and/or college, as permanent residents. Each year, the University of Guelph sponsors two or three students. As you may have heard, the university has also responded to the Syrian Refugee Crisis by agreeing to sponsor an additional two students. One of these students arrived in January and the other will be arriving in the fall with the three students we regularly sponsor. Each student is paired with a support team of three individuals from the University of Guelph which is what we are recruiting for now. Please see the job description attached for more information about this position! Feel free to contact Carly MacArthur, the Student Refugee Program Coordinator, at email@example.com if you have any additional questions.
If you don’t feel that being a support person is for you, you can also apply to become co-chair of events! Help WUSC plan events that are educational and raise awareness about topics such as refugee rights, refugee health or the challenges refugee girls face in the camps. Coordinate fundraisers to support WUSC initiatives such as the Student Refugee Program or the Shine A Light campaign. This is a great position if you are passionate, like connecting with people and like planning and coordinating fun activities! If you have additional questions about the positions please email Angela Sweeney, the Chair of the WUSC Local Committee at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thank you very much, and we look forward to seeing your application!
